Estimating Scraps in a Manufacturing
Posted on: Wednesday, 21st October 2009, 9:50 AM. First calculate ZL using minitab. Calc>prob distr.normal> enter the mean> enter the SD and activate the input constant > enter LS. Do the same with the USL. The outcome ZL= 0.0000015 ZU=0.977250 Since this is the Lower Spec Limit and Minitab gives us the area to the
left of the specified value, this will be the proportion that is below the lower spec limit. It is not necessary to subtract this result from 1.0. This is the Upper Spec Limit. Minitab provides us with the area under the curve to the left of this value. We need the area to the right (above the spec limit), so we must subtract from 1.0. This makes : 1-0.977250 =0.02275 Totaal 0.02275+0.0000015=0.0227515 Scrap : 0.0227515*652=14.83
